Have you registered for an Australian Engineering Week event yet?

July 26, 2010

With Australian Engineering Week just around the corner, it’s time to start registering for events and spreading the good word amongst colleagues, family and friends!

So what’s it all about anyway?

Held between 2-8 August, Australian Engineering Week is a chance to show the wider public what engineers do, how they do it and why their contribution to society is so important.

The week sees engineering organisations and educational institutions come together to create awareness of engineering and its impact on our everyday lives.

What’s more, it’s a week packed full of fun events right across the country, including activities, workshops, site visits, competitions and much more.

Here’s just a taste of what’s happening…
• Site tour of the RTA crash testing lab in Sydney
• Solar boat and car challenges in Darwin
• Dreamworld tour on the Gold Coast
• Site tour of the Adelaide Desalination Plant
• Heritage bridge tour in Newcastle
• Site tour of the Barron Gorge Power Plant in Cairns
• “Spaghetti towers” workshop in Margaret River, WA
• Site tours of the MCG, Etihad Stadium and AAMI Park in Melbourne

As you can see, there are many terrific events happening throughout the week that will appeal to school and university students, mums and dads, and professional engineers alike!

See the full schedule of events in your area and register

And don’t forget to encourage all your colleagues, friends and family to get involved.

Have you got your eye on a particular event during the week? Like to share some information about what’s on? Got any burning questions? Reply to this blog now.

Until next time…

I am not an engineer. A friend has suggested to me to check out the events next week. I found the range excellent but am disappointed to miss out from the Cockatoo Island Heritage Site Tour. It would be amazing to see this place from the engineering perspective. May I suggest the Engineers Australia not to wait for the Australian Engineers Week but organise such events of interest to members of the general public throughout the year.

Whist I look forward to attending the panel discussion on the role of technology in the development of humanity on Wednesday night at the Sydney Division office, I want to note that I was nicely surprised about how quickly many of the Sydney events have filled out.
