Less than a week to go until AEW 2012 kicks off!
Whether your six-year old daughter is a budding engineer, you’re a keen amateur or a seasoned pro, Australian Engineering Week will surprise and delight you with the range of events on offer.
The week kicks off next Monday August 6th and runs until Sunday the 12th. All around the country, local engineering divisions will be staging events and games, hosting field trips and tours, and even adult-only science nights. There will be something for all ages and engineering abilities.
If you are in Brisbane on Sunday the 5th, don’t miss the opportunity to make your own water rocket! It’s not something you get to do every day, but it is something the whole family will enjoy. It’s open to all children aged six and above and you need to register. The cost per child is $5 and this includes a voucher for the sausage sizzle.
On the Gold Coast, you can head to the top of SkyPoint and take in spectacular 360 degree views from the surf to the hinterland, and beyond. It’s taking place on Monday 6th at 8am and you will need to register.
Sustainability is the focus of activities in Canberra this year, and a highlight will be an information evening on sustainable living at the ANU on Wednesday the 8th. Five speakers will cover topics from heating and cooling to retrofitting buildings to improve energy efficiency. The event is free and will no doubt be popular so register soon.
If the adult-only science night tickles your fancy, it’s on Friday 10th as part of Science Alive! in South Australia. The local division claims Science Alive!, now in its seventh year, will be better than ever, with a team from Questacon adding an exciting new dimension.
