About Hydro Tasmania

Hydro Tasmania is a values-based organisation with a workforce of about 890 people. The value of our total power system is realised through trading electricity and energy products as a participant in the National Electricity Market. We are connected to the national power grid through the Basslink interconnector owned and operated by National Grid Australia. Our total generating capacity is 2568 MW and our assets are worth about $3 billion. We have a proud 100-year history in power engineering and dam construction that gave us our 29 hydropower stations and over 50 large dams the basis of our renewable energy business and expertise. We build on this with new renewable energy generation projects in wind farms and mini-hydro and enhance our assets with a program of upgrades and maintenance designed to sustain our business for future generations. In addition we own the King Island Huxley Hill Wind Farm the gas-fired Bell Bay Power Station and two diesel power stations on King and Flinders Islands in Bass Strait. We hold further wind farm interests in Tasmania South Australia and China as joint owner of Roaring 40s Pty Ltd with CLP Power Asia Limited.Hydro Tasmania is a Government Business Enterprise owned by the State of Tasmania.
